Centro de Recife (Downtown Recife)

We toured the downtown part of the city again this week, seeing some new sites such as churches as well as a cultural center. The cultural center was really interesting, because it was actually just an old prison. They turned all of the jail cells into little stores, which were fun to walk around and check out.

The entrance into the cultural center.

I'm not sure what this strange mask has to do with anything, but I thought I rocked it well.

One of the jail cells (this one obviously was not made into a store).

The prison was three stories high, this is my friend Jacob and I on one of the bridges going from one side to another.

After the Cultural Center we visited a lovely square in downtown, as well as a former palace that they have made into a government building.

Next to a statue at the downtown square.

This is the front of the palace.

The group on the stairs leading up to some beautiful painted glass in the palace.
